HomeworkYes! There will be homework!
4th graders should anticipate spending 30-45 minutes each night on homework (not including reading!) Homework is an extension of skills learned in class. Students should be able to complete their assignments independently with little help from parents, with the rare exception of special projects that may require more support.
If a student is having a difficult time answering a confusing question on their homework assignment, they are encouraged to circle it and move on. These questions will be reviewed the following day in class, and students shouldn't stress over these problems. If you notice your student having extreme difficulty understanding or is taking more than the average time to complete assignments, please contact me! |
Weekly Spelling Practice - Students homework will depend on how well your child does on their Monday pre-assessment; students practice weekly word list as homework for the rest of the week; assignment will repeat weekly with a new word list. The spelling test will be given on Friday.
Weekly Reading - Students will read at home for 15 minutes each night on RAZ kids. Students are expected to do their minutes. Checked on Mondays. Math - Homework is checked daily and will be taken directly from their textbook daily as practice; students may pull out pages. Students will have ample time to complete any project; students math notebook counts as a project grade each term. Student Planners - Students will receive a planner and are expected to write down any assignments, as we have planner time in class. Students will earn 2 points every day, 1 point for writing assignments and 1 point for parent signature. Snack - Students are allowed to bring a snack to eat during second recess M-Th. Students are not required to bring a snack. Example of snack might be an apple, a granola bar, fruit snack, etc. Remember this is just something to give students a little boost. Personal Technology - Cell phones and other personal technology are not permitted during class or recess. Student may not share phones; that includes looking at photos, playing games, surfing the web, etc. NO photos allowed in locker rooms. Extra Credit Policy - Any student who does not have missing work may complete extra credit. This means that you cannot have any zeros/"M"s when you receive/turn in extra credit. |
Late Work PolicyAll assignments should be completed with quality work and turned in on time to receive full credit. Work is considered late if it is not turned in at the beginning of the school day that it is due.
If absent, student will be allowed as many days as they were absent to make-up any in-class assignments they missed during their absence. After that time, it will be considered late. (Ex. Student out sick for 3 days has 3 days to make up missing work.) If you ever have a planned absence please contact me and I will get a work packet together. Please remind me at least 1 week in advance! If work is late (not due to an absence) students will have one day to get the work turned in penalty free with parent signature. Each following day will result in losing 10 percent per day on that specific assignment. Realistic accommodations will be provided for students that need extra time for certain subject areas, but is at the teacher’s discretion. Please be familiar with the following School Policies:
